After Hours in the Garden

Project Phoenix volunteers, partners, and community members gathered together at UCLA’s Mathias Botanical Garden for an evening of birding.

We heard from our Program Director, Dr. Olivia Sanderfoot, who shared the science driving Project Phoenix. After a snack, we set out for a bird walk through the garden. Our bird walks were led by two very talented graduate students from the Tingley Lab and the Co-President and Vice President of UCLA’s very own Bruin Birding Club!

Birders observed several species of birds common to the Los Angeles area, including Northern Mockingbirds, Anna’s Hummingbirds, Townsend’s Warblers, and a Red-tailed Hawk!
